Phishing
Phishing is an email scam. You will get an email that appears to be from a trusted source, asking for your personal information, including important passwords, banking information, or you social security number. In reality, the email is from a scammer trying to collect your information and misuse it.
How to prevent:
- Don’t click unsolicited attachments in emails
- When in doubt, call the person or company emailing you to verify they really sent it, and not a scammer
Phone scams
Phone scams come in many shapes and sizes. Typically the caller will try to pressure or trick you into paying them money. They may claim that you owe taxes, threaten legal action, or tell you that you’ve won a prize and need to pay a fee to redeem it.
How to prevent:
- Be wary of callers claiming that you’ve won a prize or contest of some sort.
- If a phone call seems suspicious, hang up.
- Know that caller ID is not 100% fool-proof. Scammers can change the caller ID to look like they are coming from a legitimate company.
Credit Card Fraud
This happens when someone steals your credit card information to make fraudulent purchases.
How to Prevent:
- Use SkyOne’s alerts to monitor your credit card activity.
- Know where your physical cards are at all times and keep them safe.
- Shred any paper documents that contain your card number (such as billing statements), before you dispose of them.
